OpenCode

OpenCode is an open source AI coding agent designed to help developers write code directly from the terminal, IDE, or desktop app. It ships with free models included and supports connecting any model from any provider, including Claude, GPT, Gemini, and locally hosted models via Models.dev (75+ LLM providers).

Key capabilities include LSP-enabled editing that automatically loads the correct Language Server Protocol for the LLM, multi-session support for running multiple agents in parallel on the same project, and shareable session links for debugging or reference. Authentication integrates with existing accounts such as GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT Plus/Pro, so developers can use the AI subscriptions they already pay for.

OpenCode is distributed across macOS, Windows, and Linux as a terminal interface, a desktop app (currently in beta with tabs), and an IDE extension. The project reports 160,000+ GitHub stars, 900 contributors, 13,000+ commits, and 7.5M monthly developers. It is privacy-first and does not store code or context data, making it suitable for sensitive environments.

An optional add-on called Zen provides access to a curated set of AI models that OpenCode has benchmarked specifically for coding agents, addressing inconsistent quality across providers.
