1. Discovery
Tools enter the directory through three channels: owner submissions via the submit form, reader nominations via the alternatives flow, and editorial monitoring of launches, partnership announcements, and category shifts. Each entry is logged with its source so reviewers can reconstruct the trail.
2. Editorial review
A named editor validates the tool's category, free-tier availability, supported platforms, and core use cases. Screenshots and feature lists are written by the editor, not scraped from the vendor's marketing page. Reviews note what was actually tested and what was not.
3. Traffic signals
Visit estimates come from Similarweb as the primary panel-based source, supplemented by partner clickstream feeds for smaller tools that fall below Similarweb's confidence floor. We deduplicate subdomains and marketing redirects, normalise browser categories, and bucket visits by referrer (search, social, direct, referral). Estimates below a confidence floor are excluded from rankings to keep the leaderboards from being dominated by noisy launches.
4. Lifetime deals
Deals are scraped from AppSumo, ProductCanyon, and DealMirror on a rolling schedule. We display the original price, the lifetime price, the platform, and a fresh affiliate redirect where the reader's click benefits AITrustList. Affiliate links never influence the placement of a deal in the listing — ranking is by lastSeenAt and freshness only. Stale deals (not seen for 30 days) drop out of the sitemap automatically.
5. Editorial independence
Sponsored placements, guest posts, and partner callouts are visibly tagged. A promoted slot never changes a tool's editorial position on a task page, in the ranking tables, or in the alternatives list. If you spot an unmarked placement, please tell us.
6. Update cadence
Pricing and feature claims are re-verified quarterly. New screenshots are added when a tool ships a major UI change. Tool ranking pages reflect the most recent month of traffic; older periods remain selectable via the filter rail.
7. The team
Reviews are signed by the editor whose name appears on each detail page. The current editorial team is listed below; new reviewers are added only after they have signed off on a real batch of coverage.
